3. Apply for the Edubanc loan

Once you’ve been admitted to Nexford, you’ll need to apply for the Edubanc loan. It’s a short application, and you’ll have a decision on your application within 24-48 hours. To apply for the loan, you’ll need the following:

  • Your Nexford Contact ID (you can find this in your Nexford admission acceptance email – only admitted applicants will receive one)
  • A current account with Sterling Bank
  • Passport photograph
  • Valid means of Identification (Driver’s license, Voters card, International passport, NIMC)
  • Utility bill (dated within the last 6 months)
  • 2 suitable references (from any bank in Nigeria)
  • Provision of an operational account number to determine eligibility (from any bank in Nigeria)
  • ATM Card for your account, to enable monthly debits for loan repayment

You'll also need to ensure that you apply for the loan with the same email address as your Nexford application, and that your name matches the name on your BVN.

The loan repayment terms also can't exceed 33% of your salary, or else you will be ineligible. If you do not have financial capacity, your parent/guardian can apply for finance on your behalf.

Whilst you’re completing your application to Nexford, we recommend to ensure you have all the above — so that you can then have your Edubanc loan processed as quickly as possible following admission to Nexford.

Am I eligible for this loan?

To be eligible to apply for the Edubanc loan you must:

  • Be a Nigerian living in Nigeria
  • Have filled in the form on this page
  • Want to study either a BBA or MBA at Nexford University
  • Have been admitted to Nexford University

The loan repayment terms cannot exceed 33% of your salary, or else you will be ineligible. If you do not have financial capacity, your parent/guardian can apply for finance on your behalf.

If you meet these criteria, you must then follow the steps outlined here to apply.

I’ve already been admitted to, or enrolled at Nexford, but didn’t fill in the form. Am I eligible?

If you’ve already been admitted to Nexford, or are currently enrolled, fill in the form on this page, and then contact help@nexford.org, and a Nexford Advisor will share details with you on how to apply.

How will I know if my loan application is approved?

After you’ve followed the steps to applying for your loan through Edpay, the loan request will be evaluated by Edpay to determine your eligibility.

Where successful, you will be informed by Edpay of the decision.

If the request is unsuccessful, you will receive a notification informing of a decline in loan request. However, you will still be eligible for a 15% discount on your tuition fees at Nexford — details of which will be provided by Nexford to you.

If I’m successful with my loan application, how much will I pay for tuition?

Across 12 months of studying a BBA at Nexford, the Edubanc loan will give you a saving of 15% on your tuition fees — so you pay a total of $816 for 12 months ($68/month), instead of $960 for 12 months ($80/month).

Across 12 months of studying an MBA at Nexford, the Edubanc loan will give you a saving of 15% on your tuition fees — so you pay a total of $1,632 ($136/month) instead of $1,920 for 12 months ($160/month).

If I receive the loan, how will I repay it?

You’ll repay the loan monthly through your contract with Edubanc, paying locally in Naira or in dollars. Your monthly repayment will be as follows (subject to FX changes):

  • BBA: N34,159.10/month (total N383,520 across 12 months)
  • MBA: N66,991.28/month (total N767,040 across 12 months)
What happens if I want to take a break during learning at Nexford (a leave of absence)?

Leave of absence (for 1+ months of studying) is not factored into the loan agreement, and you will still have to make repayments during this period. The repayment term of the loan is fixed, so does not account for periods not studying.

For example, if a learner takes a leave of absence on month 4 during their MBA study for 1 month, and has taken a loan for 12 months, they will still pay for the loan during this month on leave of absence.

Failure to repay the loan during this period (or any month) will result in late repayment fees, as well as administrative suspension from Nexford.

How do you choose who receives the loan?

If you’ve been admitted to Nexford, and have applied for the Edubanc loan, Edubanc’s loan financing team will then process your loan application and decide if you are eligible or not.

The loan repayment terms also cannot exceed 33% of your salary, or else you will be ineligible. If you do not have the financial capacity, your parent/guardian can apply for finance on your behalf.

I was admitted to Nexford, but rejected from the Edubanc loan. Can I still enroll?

Absolutely. Just because you didn’t meet Edubanc’s loan criteria shouldn’t mean you put your education on hold. At Nexford, you’re able to pay for your tuition monthly through a payment method that suits you. Some options we offer include PayPal, Cryptocurrency and Bank Transfer: so you can focus on learning, not your tuition costs.

I can't find my Contact ID to apply for the loan. How can I find it?

If you've recently been admitted to Nexford University, your Contact ID can be found in your Nexford admission acceptance email. Older accepted applicants may not have received this email. You will only receive your Contact ID if you have been successfully admitted to Nexford University.

If you are unable to find it, please contact help@nexford.org with the subject line 'Edubanc Loan — Contact ID required'.

What FX rate will I pay on the loan?

Currently, the FX rate for new loans will be fixed at USD 1:N490.

Learners will have the option of making monthly payments to Edubanc in either dollars or Naira. Sterling Bank will make FX available at conversion rates lower than the parallel market through processing Form A on the learner’s behalf.

The FX rate at the time the loan is taken is then the flat rate you will have across the period of the loan, and will not vary from month to month.

I’m interested in the internship or post-graduate job placement at Sterling Bank. What’s the criteria?

Whilst studying at Nexford University with the Edubanc loan, BBA learners may have the opportunity to apply for an internship or post-graduate work placement with Sterling Bank.

Both are subject to availability/space at Sterling Bank branches at any given time, and academic performance. Sterling HR have a pass mark for GPA which they will be evaluating prospective employees on — so ensure you’re learning to the best of your ability!

What happens if I default on my loan payment, or graduate without having fully paid back the loan?

If you default in loan repayment once enrolled, Nexford will immediately suspend access to all academic services.

Graduation certifications following the completion of your program will be withheld until clearance is received from Edubanc on full repayment of loan.

Visit our Facebook page for photos from our Spring 2021 graduation ceremony in Lagos.

Can I transfer credits to Nexford?

Not yet. We built Nexford from scratch and our curriciulum is based on the latest industry insights. That's why we can't accept credit transfer applications right now.

Want to transfer your Nexford credits elsewhere? Each university has it's own credit transfer policy, so we recommend you contact them directly.

If you've taken a Nexford course or certificate, you may be able to transfer those credits to a full degree – ask us how!

Can I enroll in new courses if I’m still finishing courses?

Short answer – no. You’ll need to meet all the requirements of your “Incompletes” and have your final grades issued before enrolling in any new courses. There is one exemption to this rule. If you’ve already pre-enrolled for new courses during the month prior, then we’ll let you make a start on these while you finish off your Incompletes. It’s worth noting; our course start dates always fall on the first of the month.

Can I take multiple courses at the same time?

You can, but not right away. All Nexford learners start out by taking one course at a time. We want to make sure you get a feel for the structure and workload of studying at the university and make your transition to online learning a smooth one. In certain programs, the first few courses are completed one at a time. Once you’ve demonstrated that your grades are up to scratch, you’ll be permitted to take on a heavier course load if you wish. We strongly recommend you speak to your Nexford Success Advisor before enrolling in multiple courses.

Can I apply for an MBA if I don't have a university degree?

You'll need an undergraduate degree or higher national diploma (HND) qualification to apply for the MBA.

However, your degree doesn't need to be in business.

If you have a degree in another discipline, you'll take four 6-8 week Foundation courses. Here, you'll learn the baseline business skills you need for our broader MBA. At the end, start taking MBA core courses.

If you have studied business before, you'll enter straight into the MBA and start taking your core courses.

Confused? We'll help you out! When you enroll, your success advisor will help you choose your pathway.

Can I get credit for my work experience?

We’re a brand new university, born different and designed to enhance higher education. Our core aim is to bridge career ambitions with academic programs that will help you achieve your goals. At this stage, we won’t be awarding credit for past work experience. This may change in the near future.

Nexford University FAQ

Where is Nexford accredited?

Nexford University is accredited by Accreditation Service for International Schools, Colleges and Universities (ASIC), which is an independent body providing accreditation services for independent, further and higher education colleges.

ASIC accreditation helps students and parents make a more informed choice and will also help a school, college, university, training provider or distance education provider, demonstrate to the international student body that they are a high-quality institution.

Are you accredited by National Universities Commission (NUC)?

NUC currently does not recognize nor have any regulatory cover for foreign universities or fully online universities. To put it into perspective, just the same way NUC can’t accredit a traditional American university which is outside of NUC’s jurisdiction, it also can’t accredit Nexford University. This may affect Nexford bachelor’s degree graduates who are looking to pursue NYSC, although graduates of Nexford University are still eligible to apply for a certificate of exclusion which is an official NYSC certificate. We monitor NUC regulations very closely and if they do change in the future, we will be at the forefront of these updates.
